The gardens are renowned and possess a high reputation. They are documented in Charles Hough's History entitled 'A Westmorland Rock Garden' published in the early 1900's. They extend to above 3 acres and include lawns, hedging, flower beds, rockeries, winding and climbing paths, a spread of speciment trees and shrubs from many different parts of the world. There is a wealth of Rhododendrons,Acers, Azaleas, Cotoneasters, Cherries and Japanese Maple . There is also a private Woods area at the top of the Garden which then gives access to Loughrigg Fell.
