- The Wash for Life was started in 2006 by a group of six students and recent graduates from Thomas Aquinas College in Southern California. Director Jonathan Tonkowich came up with the idea while sitting in math class, thinking about ways to get young people involved in the pro-life movement. From there the Holy Spirit turned the project into an event that in its first year had nearly 3000 young people participate in almost 200 car washes around the country, raising more than $85,000 for Pregnancy Care Centers.
