- The Visualization and Image Analysis (VIA) Laboratory, directed by George Stetten, M.D., Ph.D., is based at the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University and is funded by grants from NIH, NSF, and other sources. We are developing new methods of displaying and analyzing images, primarily for medical applications. We have introduced a new device called the Sonic Flashlight, for guiding invasive medical procedures, and are also involved in creating image analysis algorithms for identification and measurement of structure and function in medical images.
