Ventura Hobbies first opened in 1987, but the "roots" of the business go back to 1946 when the Atkins Family started a Hobby & Craft store in Santa Barbara California. As a young teenager, Vernon Morseman went to work for Tom Atkins, who took the young model builder under his wing and taught him the business.
Now after more than 30 years in the business, building models professionally for 25 years and having learned and worked in all facets of the Hobby Industry since the mid 1970's, Vernon has a solid, diverse knowledge of the entire industry. Vernon is the previous owner of Santa Barbara Hobbies and is the owner and operator of MTE Industries, a manufacturing company of a specialty tool for Safety Wire Products for Go-Karts, Motorcycles and Aviation, created by Vernon.
MTE Industries and Ventura Hobbies have been sponsors of a P-51 Mustang at the 1996 Reno Air Races and Associate Sponsors of an Indy Car in the 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2003 Indianapolis 500 - finishing second in 1999.
