Description
The Benefits Assistance Resource Center (BARC) of Virginia Commonwealth University is one of 3 regional training and technical assistance centers funded by the Social Security Administration (SSA) under the Ticket to Work and Work Incentives Improvement Act of 1999.
The purpose of the VCU BARC is to provide training and technical support to Benefits Planning, Assistance and Outreach (BPAO) projects and Protection and Advocacy for Beneficiaries of Social Security (PABSS) projects on the operations of the Social Security disability benefit programs (SSI and SSDI) and all associated work incentives. VCU BARC also offers training and technical assistance on the federal rules governing other national benefit programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, Food Stamps, Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF), HUD rental subsidy programs, Unemployment Insurance and Workers? Compensation.
As a Regional Training Center, VCU BARC is responsible for assisting BPAO and PABSS projects in 4 federal regions encompassing 22 states, the District of Columbia, and pacific territories such as Guam, Saipan, American Samoa and the Northern Marianna Islands.
