User talk:Tim Beer

Hi Tim, I saw your comment at User:TedErnst's page. I don't in any way speak for (or know the policies of) AboutUs, but I do know many of the people who work there, and I suspect that there is no intent to deceptively gather users. Most likely, if I might speculate, is that you were trying to edit from a shared IP address (an office, a university, a library?), and that somebody else had already done something from there that was problematic (vandalism, spamming, …?) Anyway, I don't know what happened, just sharing my hunch. I think AboutUs is a pretty good place, and I'm sorry you had a bad first experience. I hope it was just a misunderstanding. -Peteforsyth 02:32, 20 December 2007 (PST)

re: your comments

Over the last couple of days, I have blocked a few IPs from editing as anonymous people because we've had repeated vandalism from those IPs. This wasn't necessarily anything to do with you, but when you log in, we have the ability to have a conversation. I was not intending to force anyone else to log in, but sometimes this happens, as Pete points out, when using a shared IP. You can see our blog log here, if you'd like to see our history of blocking. TedErnst (talk) 07:41, 20 December 2007 (PST)
