Jean Libby is a retired instructor of U.S. History and Ethnic Studies at community colleges in northern California. She has written, edited, and published widely on John Brown (the abolitionist) since 1978. Her most recent publication is a large-format paperback book of the chronological photographs of John Brown, which is also a traveling exhibition.

A lifelong research project centers on the family of John Brown, whose widow and three daughters emigrated to California in 1864, and Santa Clara County in 1881. Congresswoman Anna Eshoo has praised this project as teaching the legacy of equality and cooperation.

Since retirement Jean is a editor for the work of Nguyen Chi Thien, dissident Vietnamese poet who became an American citizen. Mr. Thien passed away in Orange County, California, in October 2012.

Jean Libby's email lists of interested readers are international. She has a merchant site, www.atozproductions.com and an Amazon.com marketplace for books on the topics of her multicultural interests.

Jean and Ralph Libby, a librarian, shared fifty years of marriage until his passing in June 2012. The Palo Alto (California) Historical Association is organizing a named gallery for Ralph Libby at the proposed Palo Alto History Museum.
