German Rodriquez earns Commercial Certificate
German Rodriquez, who earned his instrument rating last August, has continued the process working with Chris Takasugi, a recent Skywest hire, and then with our newest CFI, Cameron Nouri for his Commercial Certificate. German has been flying the Arrow, learning performance maneuvers such as chandelles, lazy eights, and eights on pylons, all with an eye on the check ride with Alan Johnson.
During the oral portion, German demonstrated his knowledge of the aircraft systems and performance, privileges and limitations of the Commercial Certificate, Weather, and of course emergency procedures. Additionally, he was questioned on aeromedical factors, night flight operations and of course cross country planning and procedures, showing his overall knowledge in these areas.
The flight portion started out with the first leg to his planned cross country which was to Sonoma, only to be be diverted after encountering an imaginary wall of weather. After proving his skills regarding in flight calculations, Alan had him get down to the performance issues with the airplane. A few banked stalls, chandelles, and eights on pylons proved to not be an issue for German as he performed each maneuver as required by the Practical Test Standards. Even the power off, 180 to land was executed with the experience of a professional, as German touched down on the numbers at EMT.
