Twin Oaks Poultry Farm

Description

Excerpted from the website:

Twin Oaks Farm was first introduced in 1996. Since then we have grown out of our once small flock. We started out selling Buff Orpington eggs. We started out by buying 25 pullets and 2 roosters. In turn we ended up with about 67 chickens. Couple months After We started getting eggs from the "New chicks". A Dog came and destroyed our flock in one night, we had 5 hens left and there were bodies all over the property. I being only 8 at the time woke up to see the bodies of my once best friends. We buried them in a small wooded area. And put the rocks over them. After about 4-5 months I convinced my mom to let me get some more birds. I ordered 50 more B/O pullets and 25 of 4 breeds and some others. I then bought an incubator. My first sale was probably the worst in History. After raising the birds for 9 months, I had the bright idea to sell some. An old farmer came and convinced me to sell him full grown laying hens for 2.50 each. That brought in about 250.00. My mom freaked. I was the laughing stock for about 2 years from that day on. I was then left with about 20 hens. I started Hatching Pure bred chicks and got allot better with handling the customers. I started hatching every 21 days I had between 25-40 eggs hatch. I had a ratio of 2 Roosters for every 6 hens. The chicks were then raised to about 4-6 weeks then I started shipping them all around the US My first started chick sale was to a lady named Barbra Day. She is a repeat customer here. Last year B-day bought Some Easter eggers and some more Buff orps. After another year or so. I bought 4 Sportsman 1502's. I started hatching Thousands of birds from then on .started hatching Quail, Bantams, Standards. At first I bought the eggs from a large dealer then I started raising them. This past Year we did cut back allot of the chicken breeds. And we moved more toward the geese and ducks at the farm. We currently still have some of the Original strain of my Original 5 Leftover Buff Orps. They did reproduce, and I have changed dads about 20 times to keep from inbreeding. I’ve had a Wonderful, but yet sad Chicken Raising time in recent days. I am now very glad to be able to Share with you what I have enjoyed in many recent years. Twin Oaks Poultry Farm
