Thorney Mire Barn is situated in a secluded setting some two miles from the market town of Hawes in upper Wensleydale, with spectacular views on our doorstep in each direction. Whether you visit in the summer:
The building is over 250 years old and was originally the milking parlour for the farm. The barn was first converted into a dwelling in 1999 when two cottages were created. We bought the property in October 2004 and spent 6 months on major refurbishments, the result of which is a large, comfortable home with luxurious accommodation designed specifically with our guests in mind. We opened in May 2005 and immediately had good reviews - see our visitors' book.
Outside the property we have around 4 acres of woodland and a paddock in which we plan to have our little bit of the good life by growing vegetables and keeping chickens and ducks. We will then be able to serve our own eggs for breakfast. The woods are great for a 'short constitutional' or a more energetic scramble down to the river.
