When often asked, "why not paint on a traditional surface?" Quite simply, she finds a soothing softness in the shape of the shells that seem to be an art form in and of themselves. There is a challenge in working on a curved surface in addition to the textures, colours and variances of each individual egg shell.
Ms. McCarthy was honored to have been chosen by The American Egg Board and Colorado Egg Producers to paint an egg representing the state of Colorado for display at the White House for the years 2000, 2002 and 2003 Easter Celebrations. She also received the honor of having been chosen by the First Lady, Laura Bush to paint 250 commemorative eggs for the Easter Egg Roll at the 2003 White House Easter Celebration. These eggs are traditionally given as gifts by the President and Mrs. Bush to the sponsors of the Egg Roll, personal friends and family. President Bush received one in his personal Easter Basket.
An award winning artist, Marg received top honors at the 25th Annual Eggs-ibit International in Dallas, Texas and was chosen Best of Show in her division. Her work is on display at The Imagemaker, Ft. Collins, Colorado, and has been accepted into juried art exhibits across the United States.
