The Brenton Arboretum: Dallas Center, Iowa- Central Iowa Arboretum
Description
The History of the Brenton Arboretum
The Brenton Arboretum was established by Sue and J.C. (Buz) Brenton and their children because of their love of trees, the importance of trees to our world, and their desire to preserve a beautiful and important natural area. The first trees were planted in the 121-acre Arboretum during the spring of 1997. The Master Plan was created by Anthony Tyznik, Batavia, Illinois, who for many years was the landscape architect for the Morton Arboretum. The Brenton Arboretum is a non-profit organization and is open to the public.
This land is part of the original “Home Farm,” which was acquired by Dr. James Brenton and his son, William Henry, soon after they arrived here from Indiana in 1853 by covered wagon.
Features of the Arboretum
Thus far, the Arboretum includes over 1,500 trees and shrubs, most of which were six feet or less in size at planting. They are set in a beautiful rolling landscape along with many other features.
