TEIMUN stands for The European International Model United Nations, and is an annual, seven-day conference for university students in which several organs of the United Nations, plus the European Council and NATO, are being simulated. The conference takes place in The Hague, the administrative capital of The Netherlands, usually around the first weekend of July. Last year, TEIMUN had around 180 participants from 40 different nationalities. TEIMUN is being organized by a Board of Directors, which consists of 8 students from the University of Groningen. During the conference, the Board is assisted by the TEIMUN Staff, who lead the different councils, determine the council topics, and guard the intellectual quality of the debates. Apart from that, the TEIMUN Staff helps to prepare the delegates for the conference by providing background papers, with which the participants can familiarize themselves with the different subjects that are to be discussed, and deepen their understanding of the matter on forehand. The TEIMUN Staff consists of skilled former TEIMUN participants, and is selected and every year at the end of the conference by the new Secretary-General.

Furthermore, the conference is being enriched by the Crisis Staff and the Journalists. The Crisis Staff is part of the TEIMUN Staff and thus selected by the Secretary-General. The Journalists are Groningen students selected by the board. The Crisis Staff prepare a crisis for every council, to help the participants experience the (time) pressure of working in an International Organization when an international political or humanitarian disaster is taking place. Like in real life, no one knows what the crisis will be or when it takes place until it really happens. The Journalists are, like real press mosquito's, everywhere! They monitor the progress made on different subjects in the councils, and report it to all delegates in TEIMUN's daily newspaper "The TEIMUN Daily". As a complete newspaper, it does not only cover politics: it also includes the latest gossip, reports about participants and their cultures, countries and lifestyle. In consequence, it informs the delegates about each other, and informs them about the progress made in different councils.
