Title
TARA HUTTON GALLERY
Description
The name Art Deco was derived from the 1925 Exposition Internationale de Arts Decoratifs Industriels et Modernes, held in Paris. Until the 1960's the terms Modernistic, Style Moderne or just Modern were used. By the 1970's the new abbreviated moniker Art Deco had become widely accepted.
The exact time span for the Art Deco Era is evasive, some historians place it between the years 1925 to 1935. While others generously expand the time line from as early as 1900 to as recent as 1959. This is understandable because you can see it's beginnings in the designs of the Arts & Crafts and the Art Nouveau periods. And the continuation of it's influence within 1940's Streamline, all the way through the Mid-Century Moderne period of the 1950's. To most it is considered to be a movement that flourished between the two World Wars.
Art Deco borrowed heavily from and incorporated many of the characteristics and design aspects of Cubism, Russian Constructivism, and Italian Futurism.
