- Many schools of Tai Chi Chuan have evolved since the early days of the founding Taoist monks. ZENON WUDANG TAI CHI CHUAN (as practised in Tai Chi UK classes) is based on the Wu style, the founder of which was Wu Quan Yu (1822-1902), a military officer who, after learning the harder elements of Tai Chi, pleaded with the Taoist monks to endow him with the full teachings of Tai Chi and Taoist philosophy.
