TabWiki exists as a place for guitarists everywhere to submit, share and tweak guitar tabs in the easiest manner possible. Our goal is to have the largest and most accurate tab database available. We are currently working on 1044 tabs.
TabWiki was not the first guitar tab wiki. The first was at http://tabwiki.franciscrick.com It unfortunately was neither promoted nor maintained. The tabwiki concept was reincarnated at http://tablature.wikicities.com/wiki/Main_Page where it was shut down by the authorities for the reason that "online tablatures are a copyright violation." [1] (http://www.wikicities.com/wiki/Talk:Tablature) (the connection between these 2 tabwikis is unknown) On May 1st, 2005 a tabs module was added to wikibooks, however like the tab sites before TabWiki it has, to date, failed to create even a modest tableture collection.[2] (http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Tabs) So on Febuary 4, 2005 at 14:28 TabWiki presumably rose up to take the original tabwiki's place. Since Tab wiki was created there has even been a tabwiki made in german at tabwiki.org and tabwiki.net, however it had only 2 songs put on it and appears to be a poorly made copy of TabWiki.com
