Talyn Australian Cattle Dogs
Description
Talyn Australian Cattle Dogs are a select few dogs who live in our home and share our active lifestyle in the Matanuska Valley of Alaska. The Talyn dogs currently come from distinguished pedigrees including SilverDust, Silver Hills, Maitlands, and Wagga Wagga Kennels. There is also a very special Sheltie, Ty who keeps the cattle dogs well-mannered.
While I am not currently breeding Australian Cattle Dogs, I strongly feel the need to observe careful breeding practices to ensure the continued quality of the breed type. Beyond signing the Australian Cattle Dog Club of America Code of Ethics, conducting necessary health testing, and maintaining good relationships with well-respected breeders; I continue my education by attending national and local specialties. I also maintain membership with Association of Pet Dog Trainers, Cook Inlet Kennel Club, Shetland Sheepdog Club of Alaska, Matanuska Agility Canine Handlers, and North American Dog Agility Council. I volunteer as a trainer and behavioral consultant for our local animal shelter as well as conduct private classes and lessons.
The Talyn dogs compete in obedience, agility, herding, and breed conformation. All of the dogs are required to assist us in our daily tasks. Two of the dogs are certified TDI (Therapy Dog International). As we limit the number of dogs at Talyn, none of the dogs need compete for our attention and heartfelt care. I firmly believe herding dogs were bred to work with people and it is a travesty to force them to spend their lives isolated from frequent human interaction. My ACDs are at my side 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Their well-bred temperament takes them from playing with my toddler to activities with my teenager and her friends to farm chores including herding to the various competitions. My dogs come and go in friend's homes & vehicles, and are frequently seen in public politely greeting a wide variety of strangers - human and canine.
