Is Sudden Death a rap group that's funny? Or a comedy group that raps? Well that depends on who you ask. If you're a fan of rap music, Sudden Death strives to produce high quality rap songs that just happen to be funny. They do their best to avoid the "middle age people rapping in a used car ad" kind of sound. If you're a fan of comedy, Sudden Death tries to make each song funnier than the last one. You don't need to be a fan of rap music to appreciate what Sudden Death does. Although you do need to at least be able to tolerate it.

Sudden Death was formed in the mid-80's and started releasing self-produced cassette albums in the early 90's. The band's big break came in 1998 when Dr. Demento played "South Park Junkie" on his nationally syndicated show of comedy music. The song became a huge success- ending up as the fourth most requested song of that entire year. Since then Sudden Death has become one of the most requested new artists on the show with several songs making the weekly Funny Five countdown, and two more year end Funny 25 appearances- one in 2002 with a duet with the great Luke Ski called "Peter Parker" (#1), and then again in 2003 with "Ozzman" (#6).

In 2003 Sudden Death began performing on a somewhat regular basis at whatever venue was willing to have them- or in some cases was tricked into having them. Most shows feature just front man Tom "Devo Spice" Rockwell in a solo performance, while some include one or more of the other Sudden Death members- Steve "Piles" Fernino, or Thom "Professor Pastronamy" Uliasz. Sometimes other performers are brought in to help out. People like the great Luke Ski, Tony Goldmark, and Shoebox of Worm Quartet have all lent their talents to the Sudden Death stage show. The show itself features props, costumes, puppets, and a projection screen which shows videos and animations to accompany most songs. The live show adds another level of humor to the already funny songs and the crowds always enjoy it.
