Description
Sudden Change began its humble roots over 10 years ago as Mark and Dave played in an obscure classic rock and blues band named Back Step. Mark had played in an earlier band named Satellite before teaming up with Dave in Back Step in 1989. While the music quality was good, the music played was rather obscure and a following was hard to achieve. Dave was thankful though, as he had picked up his first guitar only some 15 months earlier and this band gave him much needed experience.
Dan, on the other hand, was playing in a big 80's band named Mystrix from the Rittman area. That band had been together for some time and had a decent crowd following. The drummer from Mystrix attended Wayne College and Dave met her in art class. After some weeks of conversation, Dave was invited to come and try out for Mystrix on bass. Dave did and got the position and this is where he met Dan. Dave enjoyed the music Mystrix as playing but eventually broke the band up. The singer from Mystrix and Dan agreed to join Dave and add Mark from Back Step and form Tolkien’s Hammer, centering slightly more on the harder classic rock. Their crowning achievement was playing at the Rib Burn off in Cleveland.
The band broke up after a few attempts to fill the lead vocals spot. Dan returned to the original Mystrix and Dave and Mark returned to their old band, Honeytown Road. After another some 7 years, these gentlemen got the itch to play different music again. They reformed again sometime in 2000-2001, brought on a new singer and rhythm guitarist and gigged under the name Sinister Minister, focusing on hard, modern, alternative rock. While the music was fun, it was difficult to gain a following with middle-aged men playing 20-somethings’ music.
