Description
The STUART SAILFISH CLUB was formed more than 60 years ago and incorporated in January of 1941. It is one of the oldest sportfishing clubs in the United States, formed for the purpose of promoting the conservation of gamefish and encouraging visitors to fish in Martin County waters. To this day, these remain our primary goals. We attract visitors by sponsoring offshore fishing tournaments and then donate a large part of the proceeds to worthy conservation programs and local conservation organizations.
The fishing tournaments sponsored by the SAILFISH CLUB are oriented toward fun in a family atmosphere. We encourage and reward the participation of female and junior anglers. We strive to make our tournaments affordable by offering awards which are highly desirable, but do not attract the anglers looking for large cash prizes or expensive merchandise, thus avoiding the distasteful practice of administering lie detector tests to the winners.
At the present time, we hold five offshore tournaments each year along with one river tournament.... and each is unique. In fact, each of them is among the first of its kind to be held anywhere, and each participant and sponsor has always been proud to be associated with them. In addition, we sponsor a Scholarship Program and publish a monthly newsletter. General Membership meetings are held throughout the year. We have reinstated our Members Tournament that is, as the name implies, for members only, and is held on the day of our Annual Meeting in November. Officers and Directors are installed; winners of that tournament are rewarded, as are the winners of our yearlong outstanding catch event.
