Description
Stephanie Gottschalk is a twenty-four year old artist, designer, and writer from West Palm Beach, Florida. She attended two 1/2 years of Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida, double majoring in fine arts with a concentration in painting, and writing & literature. She ultimately chose to forgo formal training in favor of learning from her own experimentation. She taught herself to use oil paints at 17, and learned through imitating the Italian Renaissance masters. Weekly life drawing sessions as well as contact with her contemporaries has greatly influenced her style over the years. Stephanie's work has a storytelling quality that is influenced both by her own writing, and by classic literature and poetry. Although many of her paintings, designs and art dolls are based upon stories of her own, characters from favorite novels, omens & superstition or myths & legends, she prefers not to specify her inspiration for each individual piece. She very much values the viewer's own individual perception of art and prefers to allow them to form their own ideas and emotional responses to her work.
Jason Rogers was born and spent most of his life in Jacksonville, Florida. He is largely influenced by mythology, sci-fi & fantasy, classic literature, Jim Henson, Brian Froud, and the work of special effects artists and model makers such as those at WETA Workshop. He values the actual physical process of creating and designing more than the outcome of the work itself, so much of his work gets balled up or thrown in the trash when he's done with it. Jason has a background in textiles, and enjoys a wide range of media such as screen printing, clothing customization, graphic design, sculpting and knotwork design.
Stephanie and Jason live together in Asheville, North Carolina with their cat, Talulah. They often collaborate on their art dolls and graphic design.
