about: rick west

Trained and educated as an architect, Rick West was working for a design firm that specialized in schools and hospitals when he first decided to put his financial holdings into the stock market. Initially, he relied on a broker to make insightful decisions regarding his holdings, but he soon became increasingly interested in learning about the market for himself. From 1993 to 2000, he drafted building plans during the day but spent evenings and weekends studying the market. He quickly became discontent with his reliance on a series of financial professionals – none of whom ever seemed to have any significant success with his portfolio – and wondered if he could do better by himself. Rick West

thought that maybe there was a better way to trade, Rick began to study the equity markets. With an emphasis on Fundamental Analysis, he explored PE Ratios and Market Caps, Burn Rates, and Debt/Equity Ratios. His portfolio began to flourish as the 90’s Bull Run overtook the market. Then one day while driving home during a snowstorm in ’98, Rick happened upon a radio show featuring an expert in Technical Analysis. Candlesticks, Gaps, Head ‘n Shoulders, Fibonacci Retracement, Last Engulfing Patterns, and Cup ‘n Handles filled the airwaves. Though amused by the peculiar terminology, Rick began to suspect that this kind of approach to trading might be just what he was looking for as he realized over the next several months that this financial specialist was projecting prices of stocks days, weeks, and months in advance, often with much accuracy. Rick began studying Technical Analysis theory avidly, and soon discovered that his architectural training in the visual deconstruction of images and structures translated into a keen talent for visually analyzing patterns found in equity charts. Fibonacci Chart Analysis, the use of mathematical sequences to find support and resistance levels, caught his attention in particular. This method seemed to bear uncanny accuracy in projecting prices far in advance. By March of 2000, Rick had developed enough confidence in his aptitude for applying Fibonacci ratios to equities to leave the architectural field permanently and apply himself solely to the profession of trading.
