About the Standard Inn
The Standard Inn is a traditional pub serving a wide range of drinks including real ales. We also serve light lunches and evening meals, and have guest rooms.
The Standard Inn dates back to C 1420 and was originally two seperate buildings that have been converted and knocked together. Looking about the bar we can see where some of the brickwork is much older 'flanders' style brickwork and where there are more modern additions.
At one time when highway men and foreign sailors would have been abundant and merchants and travellers thronged the Strand, The Mint and Strand Quay had a plethora of pubs. The Standard is the only remaining one in a row of three; The Standard Inn, The Swan Inn and The Forresters Arms.
