In 1921, the mission church of St. Anthony of Padua was built on Leesburg Pike, across from what is now Skyline Center, and Mass was offered just twice a month. The mission was served originally by priests from St Mary's in Alexandria. In the 1930s, responsibilities were transferred to St Mary's at Fairfax Station and, after World War II, to Blessed Sacrament in Fairlington.
