ABOUT OUR PARISH

Episcopal services were first conducted in the City of Battle Creek in the summer of 1839, with the assistance of the clergy of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Marshall. In 1842, St. Thomas was officially incorporated as a parish of the Diocese of Michigan.

The first church building was consecrated in 1848. The existing building was erected on the same site in 1878. Additions and renovations continue to the present day. The building suffered damaging fires in the 1940's and 50's, especially to the roof and stained glass windows. The lovely stained glass window over the altar is original.

The organ is a 16 rank E.M. Skinner, built in 1929 for this church. The Organ Historical Society has taken special note of its fine sound, unaltered state and good condition.
