Description
The Orton family welcomes you to the Storybook Inn. The Inn was built in 1993 and has been in operation ever since. We are the second owners, becoming innkeepers through a rather circuitous route. Formally cattle ranchers, we sold our ranch in 1998, and planned on moving to Eastern Idaho to a new ranch. But circumstances altered our plans, and we moved into Solvang and purchased The Storybook Inn. Going from ranching to Innkeeping wasn't that much of a transition; the hours were about the same, it involved bedding and feeding clients, and to be absolutely honest, cattle complain much more!
The entire family is involved. Chip is the weekday chef and proprietor. Carol is also proprietor, our fabulous decorator and is often the one at the front desk answering your questions on the phone. Oldest daughter Joelle is the breakfast chef on weekends, daughter Liz manages the inn, son Matthew oversees the properties, and Sasha , who is in college, works on the weekends. Our son-in-law Trent is involved in the day to day workings of the Inn, and our other son-in-law Ryan is the creator of this website.
Let us not forget Grandma Anna. She is the weekend waitress, dispensing aebleskivers, history, wisdom, and plenty of bantering with guests. Anna Larsen Nielsen is a very special person who epitomizes most of the solid Danish virtues of self-reliance, hard work, devotion to family and friends, and a positive outlook that has helped to make Solvang the wonderful place that it is.
