ABOUT SMOAKY

KTBB Sports Director David Smoak has over two decades of experience covering sports in East Texas. A graduate of Tyler Junior College and Stephen F. Austin State University, David began his career in television, at KTRE-TV in Lufkin. He spent the first ten years of his career working in television fulltime, including what became a long stretch with KLTV-TV, Channel 7 (1984-1996). David began his radio career in January, 1990, and the rest is history. He became the host of his award-winning afternoon Sports Talk show, one of the longest running sports talk shows in the country.

Sports Talk can be heard every weekday afternoon starting at 4:07pm on AM600 KTBB, AM1490 ESPN, and AM1430 KEES. David has also just recently launched his own website, "Smoaky.com", which includes a great deal of information on local sports, plus his very popular "The Smoak House Forum", where East Texans have another outlet to voice their opinion and knowledge.

David's professional awards include the Associated Press Awards for Best Radio Sports Talk Show, Best Radio Play-By-Play, Best Television Sportscast, Best Television Sports Feature, and Best Television Serious Feature. In 1988, David's human interest feature "Jamie's Season", won national acclaim, when he chronicled the final days of Jamie Sexson, the Marshall High School football teams ballboy, who was eventually lost his battle with Leukemia. David is active in numerous local organizations including the Patriots Committee and Special Olympics. He also founded "David Smoak's Scholastic All-Stars" Program, which honors the best high school student-athletes throughout East Texas. "Smoaky" is a member of the Tyler Junior College Hall of Fame. David's hobbies include playing golf (with his 6-handicap), landscaping, and enjoying life. David and his wife Cindy, his wife of 20+-years have two children, Craig and Jennifer, and they're members of Christ Episcopal Church in Tyler.
