I used to work for an organization that did money transfers, and other such things. Part of the business included providing ATM services. The ATM ’s were sometimes owned by my employer, and sometimes they were owned by Diebold, or some other manufacturer. We simply obtained the contracts to put the machines in place, give them network connectivity of some sort, and act as a relay to the banks involved. So, the ATM would connect to the local network, shoot across a private WAN link to us, and then shoot across another private WAN link to the bank where the Auth servers reside.
