I began experimenting with decorative painting 15 years ago, after a bout with breast cancer and I just love it. It’s a form of therapy for me. If it doesn’t move I’ll paint on it and I have been known to chase moving objects, paintbrush in hand.
My husband, Bob, cuts and builds most of the wood I paint on and he builds all of the children’s furniture and mirror frames. Now that he is retired I really keep him busy and out of trouble. As a matter of fact he's even taken over the garage and made it into a wonderful wood working shop.
I live in Brewster, New York, which is about 50 miles north of New York City with my husband, two cats and our nutty Springer Spaniel "Daphne". Our daughter Lizz got married this past summer and now lives in England. We live right on one of the NYC reservoirs so Daphne swims everyday and exercises herself. We have lots of birds on the property and swans swimming by everyday which have given me lots of inspiration for my painting. I'm not a wonderful gardener, some may say I even have "black" thumbs but, I love flowers which explains why I paint so many of them. Since I don't have a formal studio yet (my project for the spring is to make Lizz' room into a guest room/studio) I do most of my painting right on the dining room table and dinner time usually requires an extra 10 minutes to clear off the table so we can eat. Fortunately I have a wonderful, understanding and supportive family.
