The village of South Glens Falls is located in Northeastern Saratoga County across the Hudson River from the City of Glens Falls. South Glens Falls is home to the historically famous Cooper's Cave, which can be seen from the bridge linking Glens Falls and South Glens Falls. Cooper’s Cave was made famous by author James Fenimore Cooper in the first American novel, "The Last of the Mohicans". A large section of South Glens Falls bears Cooper’s family name of Fenimore to this very day.
South Glens Falls is rich in history where visitors can explore local historic sites such as Fort Ticonderoga, Fort William Henry and the Saratoga Battlefield. There are also several history museums in the area, including the Chapman Historical Museum, Bolton Historical Museum, and the Fort William Henry Historical Museum. For recreational enthusiasts, area lakes such as Lake Champlain and Lake George are wonderful for boating and sailing. Near by, West Mountain and Gore Mountain are popular locations for Winter sports including skiing, snow boarding, sledding and snow tubing. The summer tourist industry and winter skiing provide seasonal employment for several thousand persons.
