Simon Fraser University Choir (SFU Choir)

Description

Who We Are

Our club was started in 1992 by a few undergraduate students who loved to sing. Over the years, our group has been managed by a barrage of stellar volunteers, mainly SFU staff and students. We are a non-audition group whose main criteria for membership is an enthusiasm for music. We host concerts three times a year (near the end of every semester) featuring a wide range of local choral groups. Every semester, we challenge ourselves with new styles of music varying from Broadway musicals to spirituals to requiem masses. But overall, we have always been there to enjoy the music and each other's company.

Our Conductor

Dr. Jon Thompson earned a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Colorado. His area of expertise is choir music before the 17th century, late Romantic English, and Norwegian choral music. We have been lucky enough to have him since 1997 as conductor of the SFU choir. In addition to his contributions to the SFU choir. Jon also teaches music at Trinity Western University and spent 3 years as assistant conductor of the Vancouver Bach Choir.
