About Robo Systems

Robo Systems was born at a very early age around a kitchen table in London, England, during early 1980. We were all complaining about how difficult it was to use computers to do even the simplest things. There was software, Jim, but not as we know it

We were interested in drawing and designing things. We had an Apple II computer, which had (for those days) good graphics. But we couldn't use it. Why not? No software. Well we wouldn't let a simple thing like that stop us. We wrote our own. How could we interact with the computer? There was no such thing as a mouse. Well, we made an input device - a three axis "joystick." It was an instant success, even starring in the James Bond film "Thunderball." Look for it - it's on-screen for a few seconds as the villains use it to control their deadly missiles.

And so, in 1981, the Robo "Bitstick" CAD program became available for sale. We think that this was the very first CAD system available for a personal computer. It ran on the Apple II series, including the //c, and also on the BBC Acorn. Professional versions were made for third party hard drives and video subsystems. These had very respectable performance, even by today's standards.
