RefactorReviews:Experiment
What
- Refactoring reviews to make them constructive and valuable, and engaging the website owners through email.
Why
- To facilitate communication between organizations and their constituents. We are thinking about helping people make their reviews constructive. If reviews have no potential of being constructive we don't think they should be apart of this place.
DoneDone
- When all community staff members interested in task refactor two reviews each day during this iteration and inform the companies about it through email.
Steps we expect to take to get to DoneDone
- Adding to the list below for paring later whenever we come across a review that needs to be refactored.
- Refactoring valuable reviews
- Sending emails to the organizations.
Refactoring Guidelines
Although in the ultimate analysis we do not know what exactly is going to work, but still there are a few points which we need to keep in mind while refactoring a review or even adding one to the list to be refactored. Here are some of them (Feel free to add to them and/or remove them if you don't like some point):
- We can't refactor all the reviews (wish we could!) because of our limited resources, which means to say that we are refactoring reviews not just because we think they should be made more constructive (which of course is one of our aims), but also because we want companies to get engaged with its customers in a positive way. Review refactoring should therefore have the following characteristics:
- Demonstrative/Exemplary: Refactored reviews should be examples of constructive feedback to the community, so that they can do it the same way while reviewing a website.
- Engaging: Reviews should have a potential to elicit a response from the company. "SPAMMERS, SPAMMERS, SPAMMERS" has less chance of evoking a response from the company than "These folks need to improve their delivery system."
- More than comment: It's better to give room to the company to explain there side of the story rather than simply commenting. So instead of saying "They never respond to emails or phone calls" or "Customer support through email and telephone is bad, we could say, "Would be good if customers can have better email and telephone support."
- Think before you speak: Finally, its important to be choosy. Not all reviews can be or should be refactored. ParkingLots, websites involved in fraudulent activities are not good candidates for refactoring reviews.
- No crying in the wilderness: Always try to check if the contact information of the company is available. What's the point of all this labor when you're not even heard?

Reviews that don't need refactoring
If somebody thinks that a review in the above list doesn't need refactoring and should be removed from the list, he can move it here mentioning the reason for its removal. Somebody else can then come and either ratify the move by deleting it or refactor the review if he wants to.
- Digital-Media.uk.com: It seems that the review on this page could be made more clear with some examples of copyright violation, which was claimed by the reviewer. I have removed the review from that page. Asad | *~talk~* 02:32, 7 December 2007 (PST)
- CheapOemShop.net, ElectroForLess.com: The websites are suspected of being involved in fraudulent activities and therefore are not good candidates for review refactoring. Asad | *~talk~* 02:59, 7 December 2007 (PST)
- Clean32.com: The website seems to be a distributer of malware, so not a good candidate for refactoring. Asad | *~talk~* 03:07, 7 December 2007 (PST)
- Clixncash.com: Not enough information to refactor. At any rate it's been balanced by another comment. Asad | *~talk~* 03:06, 7 December 2007 (PST)
- ComCastOnline.com: The information is not enough to refactor. I have removed the review, restoring the description. Asad | *~talk~* 03:22, 7 December 2007 (PST)
- ForeverLastingPhotography.com's account has been suspended. No need to refactor the review therefore. Asad | *~talk~* 03:31, 7 December 2007 (PST)

Reviews we've refactored as part of this task
Reviews we've refactored without emailing company
Big list to chose from:
Discussion/Links/etc
- With reference to 1and1.de, I am not sure what to do here because 1) the matter is being discussed on a blog (See this ) - I understand that this shouldn't stop us - and 2) it's been reported on a number of other pages related to the same company like, 1and1.fr and 1and1.com etc. I plan to create a separate page for the reviews and transclude it on all the relevant pages, or redirect all TLD's to one page rather than having three or four different pages for the same company? Thoughts? Asad | *~talk~* 02:56, 6 December 2007 (PST)
- About GoodDeal.net Note to self: Visit website before refactoring. It has become a ParkingLot, but i had re-factored the review so i kept it. Didnt find a way to contact them through their website. Their contact email from whois bounces back.
- I have to deal with that sort of thing alot. If you're adamant about getting in touch with them, send an email to their Domain Registrant about the email. Dom Reg's don't like it when their clients can't be contacted. It's against ICANN Regulations. ~ CertGuard 21:00, 6 December 2007 (PST)
- RedTailTechnology.com - review not really worth responding to
- LiveTvNow.com - site has become ParkingLot
