Description

Red Horse Inn History

Steeped in rich Cape Cod History and woven into the fabric of Falmouth, the Red Horse Inn was and continues to be a sought after hotel by the ocean.

Located steps to Falmouth Harbor, island ferries, beaches, downtown dining, shopping and more, the Red Horse Inn was originally built as a restaurant in 1933. Known as The Bellows at that time, it was a simple Cape Cod Style house built by Mrs. Tekla Hedlund of Long Island and was reputed to be a fashionable dining spot.

It remained a restaurant and passed ownership a few times until Mr. & Mrs. John Sheehan converted it to a guest house in 1948 and changed the name to the Red Horse Inn. According to a local legend, the name Red Horse Inn came about because Mr. Sheehan was an avid race horse enthusiast who favored a Triple Crown winner, a Roan (or red) horse. In 1956 it was sold, renovated, expanded and run as a seasonal Inn until the sale to the Fredette Family in 2002.
