The European Union’s regulation on the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemicals (REACH) came into force June 1, putting the burden on businesses to demonstrate that the chemicals they use in their products are safe. Any chemicals used will have to be registered by manufacturers, importers, distributors and users with a new EU regulator, the European Chemicals Agency (EChA) based in Helsinki, Finland.
