Where are we on this? TedErnst 13:20, 12 August 2007 (PDT)
- Next step is to integrate the strategic goals into the planning game. See AboutUs Planning Game for my initial wack at the process - John Stanton 18:00, 12 August 2007 (PDT)
Meeting
- John calls meeting to order. References Thoughts On Planning Game Meetings.
- Julia and Ward go over the About Us Adoption Map. Right now we are doing well at Uniques/Month, we want to move strategically towards page views/visit and visits/unique.
- Talked about Knowledge Work and Brand Negotiation.
- Map will communicate our plan to investors.
- John: talking about strategic goals: Examples Domain pages and Subdomain Pages.
- Subdomain pages are a goal that we are not doing well on. Cards out that fall under that category, but they have not been prioritized. A good example of how a larger strategic view could help us with Planning Game.
- Decided to list strategic goals on paper for all to see and discuss.
- Tak: where does inclusiveness fit?
- Ward: Doing well by doing good.
- Teaching wiki, introducing communities. Talking about values and visions.
- Ward: Doing well by doing good.
- Scott: Where is our mission statement? Do we need to do that first?
- Julia: Mission statement is in constant state of flux. Different visions for different people.
- What is WhoWeAre doing?
- Ten minutes to discuss mission
- Current mission statement: To promote Wiki in a way that rekindles the spirit of worldwide collaboration and unleashes people's full potential to build things worth building. AboutUs provides the venue, tools and infrastructure to support the community's vision.
- Blake: To provide a place for communities, business, and individuals to discuss themselves and each other in wiki.
- to facilitate the self-organization of people and information.
- What motivates us personally
- Mark: Teach wiki
- John: collaboration is part of the mission.
- Tak: Using new internet as template for community. Equalizing.
- Julia: Product of what we do is a teaching and learning tool. Teaching and learning is inherent in the tool. Also the scope of the project.
- Ward: Opportunity to organize community in such a way that the community can accomplish things that cannot be accomplished any other way. There is a chance that a few people working on the internet can change things for the better. Address large international issues.
- Kasey: Equalizing of wiki. Same tools for all.
- Chris: Organize information in a way that no one else can. Free market of information.
- Scott: Google:Search as AboutUs:Wiki. Wikipedia is a great book on the shelf, but we could be the shelf. Where wiki happens on the internet.
- Everyone: Not just a domain directory.
- Wiki does it belong in our mission statement
- Do we want to define wiki or does wiki define us?
- take wiki to the next level.
- Decision to let the Mission Statement Brainstorm Sit. Good ideas, let it percolate.
- Is internal communication part of our strategy?
- How do we organize internally? How do content, dev, and community communicate?
- How do people know what important conversations are going on in the Portland office?
- In open source community, all decision-making must take place on the net.
- Where does RC fit into our mission?
- How do we give back?
- We are more of an open-source user than an open-source provider.
- Cultivate Respect
- What is our value proposition? What do we have to offer our visitors?
- Ten years ago, a wiki was enough, now there are a bunch of places to create and write. Now we have to build on that foundation. We have the platform, what is the application?
