As I look back over my life, I see that there is nothing anyone else has felt or experienced that I have not. Yes, I am aware that in many ways I cannot have experienced all things life has to offer to the same degree as everyone else. That does not, though, negate the fact that I share something in common as every other person on this planet.
I was born and raised in a small town in the heartland of America. I was raised with good Midwestern values and lived my life from that perspective for the first 25 years of my life. I fully understand the small town view of life.
At 25 I made about the most drastic change a small town boy could make; I moved to New York City. For over a decade I have made my life in a world that is 180 degrees different than the world in which I grew up. I've lived in areas of the city that weren't particularly safe to areas where I was surrounded by the wealthy and famous. Each situation offered me a new perspective on life in the big city.
