Poise.cc | Cinnamon Cooper - Pursemaker, proprietor, person.
Description
While the skills development process at Poise.cc started when Cinnamon Cooper was 7 years old (after she received a Holly Hobby sewing machine for her birthday) the concept of a purse-making empire began after a trip to New Orleans. While staying in a rather eclectic bed and breakfast she encountered the word purse prounounced 'poise' with a soft 's'. The spelling of the word and its other meanings inspired a lady-like vision of calm, pulled together women with perfectly coordinated outfits. And what is the perfect item to coordinate an outfit? A purse, of course.
She had been making purses for charities to sell at silent auctions for a few years and finding the feedback she received from the purchasers to be remarkably satisfying. Her next idea was to honor all of her friends with a purse specially-designed for them. Since making a purse requires only a portion of a yard of fabric, she decided to offer copies for sale on her website. Creating a few more purses inspired many, many more ideas and she found herself with a full closet. With the prompting of a friend she agreed to help coordinate a trunk show to permit artisans in Chicago to present their wares to a greater audience. On November 15th, 2003 the first DIY Trunk Show was deemed a huge success by all involved.
After the trunk show, she made connection with a young woman who was opening a bridal boutique in Cincinnati, Ohio. The creative energy this woman possessed fueled Cinnamon's creative spirit again and she agreed to create a line of custom-order purses for brides, bridesmaids, mothers-of-the-bride, and even flowergirls. The idea of working with women excited about fabric and beads and what it could say about their personality keeps her awake at night, but she wouldn't have it any other way.
