OtOkOtO was started as a joke between Carlo Prudencio and his Uncle (Edwin Nadera). It was one night of drinking back in the summer of 1997 that the two men joked about starting a car club called OtoKoto. OtOkOtO is a street slang for "This is my car" in Filipino language.

Carlo's cousins (Erwin Cabanayan, TeeJay Nadera, and Nikki Nadera) joked along until they noticed that the name caught on to the racing community. The name "OtOkOtO" spread from the West Covina, California area to the bay area. Although, the racing crew based in the bay area is not affiliated with the cousins located in So Cal.

Until today, the cousins has heard of people carrying the "OtOkOtO" name on their apparel in Canada.
