Description

The Boosters of Old Town (BOOT) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the support of interpretive programs within Old Town San Diego State Historical Park (OTSDSHP). BOOT sponsors interpretive activities that reflect life in San Diego through 1820 to 1872. It generates income through fund raising activities, primarily through its store and historic tours. Funds raised by BOOT stay within the Park; they are not returned to the California General Fund. Funds are distributed to interpretive programs by the BOOT Board of Directors in response to proposals submitted by State Park Staff or by volunteers working on projects under staff direction.

BOOT provides funds for several major events within OTSDSHP. These are: A Day with the Women of Old Town in the spring, an Old Fashioned 4th of July in the summer, Fiestas Patrias in the Fall, and Holiday in the Park during the Christmas Season . In addition, BOOT sponsors several ongoing activities and living history events such as the blacksmiths' shop, the woodworkers' shop, the Descendants of Old Town genealogy workshops, and City Guard Band concerts.

BOOT also provides funds for volunteer and paid staff to attend training events. Funds are also made available to supplement park aide salaries and smaller park operational needs as well, such as garden tools, furniture, signs etc. BOOT also publishes its newsletter, the Poppy Paper and maintains this website.
