- Welcome to the Ornate Bird Garden. Between the wild birds who come and go and the turtles who hunt the garden rows for snails and other plant-pests, there is a lot of action in the backyard. I live in the American southwestern high desert; we have a long growing season, but not much water. I grow herbs, flowers, and vegetables (mainly in containers) and work with drought conditions. I also have turtles in my backyard, and though I'm not a herpetologist, I can offer turtle advice based on years of experience. Whether your interest is in birding, the reptile kingdom, or simply growing plants, you may find something of interest at the Ornate Bird Garden. Feel free to browse and enjoy yourself.
