Northwest Church of God
Description
The North West Church of God was founded 13 years ago. Like most 7th day Sabbath keeping churches its origins lie in the early Christian church which arrived in Britain long before Sunday was thought of and introduced by the Roman Catholic missionaries. Known by non-members as the Celtic Church it gradually gave way to the political power of Rome though it evangelised parts of Europe.
Returning to Britain in the thirteen hundreds these 'Bible men' increased, and became persecuted but were encouraged by Henry V111 while in conflict with the Pope, and continued under Elizabeth. Though the church survived persecution in England the church of God flourished best among the Pilgrim Fathers of America and with the freedom of worship spread from state to state towards the west. Though some adopted the name Seventh Day Adventists many held to the True Bible Name, sometimes adding the words 'Seventh Day'.
Re-introduced into Britain by the Worldwide Church of God, the true religion suffered a severe blow when it adopted an hierarchical form of church government.
