Our congregation's Stephen Ministry equips lay people to provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care to individuals in our congregation and community who are experience difficulties in their lives. Pastors will always be on the front lines of care especially during times of crisis. But there are always many more needs for ongoing one-to-one care than pastors can effectively meet by themselves. Stephen Ministry provides a biblical solution- equipping God's people for ministry. Gifted lay people are trained to support and extend the care that pastors continue to provide. Stepen Ministers reach out with God's love to peole who are hurting-both congregation members and nonmemebers alike. Our Stepen Ministry Leaders are Grace Nelson, Marlene Soderstrom, and Roger Thorpe. Church boards exist to set policy and program direction for the activities of the church. All boards are made up of members, typically involved via 1-3 year terms. Standing committees are typically made up of both board members and other volunteers from the congregation. Overall responsibility for managing the church's direction, programming and resources is held by the Executive Council. Those interested in participating in any of these groups is encouraged to approach the pastoral staff or the elected church chair.
The Season of Lent
The word Lent comes from an Anglo-Saxon word referring to the lengthening of days in the move from winter to spring. The season begins with Ash Wednesday, the Wednesday following Transfiguration Sunday, and lasts for forty days (excluding Sundays). This is a reflective and penitential season, asking Christians to examine themselves as they remember the suffering and sacrifice of Jesus on their behalf. Significant days observed during this season include Ash Wednesday, the Sundays of Lent, the days of Holy Week.
