North Charleston Inn Hotel near Charleston Airport & Charleston Convention Center
Description
Just north of the Cooper and Ashley Rivers sits South Carolina’s 3rd largest city: North Charleston. The city was incorporated in 1972 but its history extends far beyond the days of disco. Over 400 years ago, North Charleston was home to Tidewater Indians including the Kiawah, Stono, Wando, and Etiwan tribes, who inhabited the rivers surrounding the area. Beautiful plantations began to develop over time with names such as Ingleside, The Elms, and Marshlands. The Charleston Naval Base, later constructed, played a major role in America’s defense system in World War II. The development of the base stimulated what many call the “boom” that hit North Charleston. Since 1972, the area has been one of the fastest growing regions in South Carolina, and attracts millions of visitors each year.
