Description

Cheshunt Karate Club was formed in January of 1999, with just 9 junior students starting their first steps in the martial arts. Sensei’s Paul, Makewell, Dewson and Edwards supported Sensei Pell to help launch the club. Sensei Ayres was nursing a back injury and was unable to attend.

All the above Sensei’s were then training at the Broxbourne dojo with Sensei Harry Jones 6th Dan. The club was then a member of the English Shotokan karate association of which Sensei Jones was a founder member. The next week the first adult students started and more soon followed.

Soon after the passing of Sensei Jones, Sensei Pell made the difficult decision to leave the ESKA. One of the reasons was that he felt the grading syllabus was more suited to teaching students in a large association and not a small group. He subsequently changed the grading syllabus to one more suited to their needs.
