Description
Nayan Sthankiya, a Canadian photojournalist of East Indian decent, has been based in Asia for the last 5 years covering various news and feature stories in Korea, China and the Asia Pacific. He has traveled to well over 60 countries world wide. He was born in Uganda, Africa to East Indian parents and forced to flee Uganda during a civil war.
A diverse background, including photography, sculpture, painting, design, video. Traditionally trained in media arts at the Alberta College of Art and Design with a minor in photography he had a studio practice for 5 years and numerous gallery shows nationally and internationally.
Seeking a better way to effect change and inform the world, the photographic image allows him to tell stories and convey emotion in a way that eluded him in his studio work. Nayan found that photojournalism was a natural outlet for his social views pushing the image out beyond the conventional views of photography.
His work is represented by Corbis, Paris and has been published world wide in magazines, dailies and the internet. He has also been commissioned and contributed work to various international NGO's working on social, environmental and cultural issues.
