Morecambe Bay Home
Description
'Anyone who ventures onto the apparently endless expanses of sand cannot help but be impressed and even overwhelmed by the vastness of Morecambe Bay. From the sands, the shoreline is flattened and it's prominent features merge with the hills behind and lose their reassuring features.
In the past, when travelling across the Bay was a hazardous necessity and not an afternoon adventure, the 'guides to the sands' ensured the safety of local folk and travellers. Fishermen, who worked the flats every day learned the skills of reading the sands to find a safe route that avoided the treacherous quicksand's, whilst keeping ahead of the incoming tide'.
This extract is taken from a 36 page colour booklet about Morecambe Bay. The booklet is called "Morecambe Bay - Secrets of the Sands".
