Title
Montgomery Soil and Water Conservation District
Description
It all began with the disastrous drought of the 1930s, when farms were ruined because of the loss of fertile topsoil. This resulted from poor agricultural practices.
Under the authority of the Ohio Conservation District Law in 1949, local farmers organized The Montgomery Soil and Water Conservation District. They wanted to protect and improve the county's soil and water resources, without which we cannot grow food.
The District is administered by a board of five Supervisors who are elected by the landowners and residents in Montgomery County. The Board members receive no income for their work, however many have said that the satisfaction of seeing land protected with good conservation practices is sufficient payment.
