Description
ModelWorks International (Sales) Ltd manufactures and sells a range of large scale engineered kits direct to customers where all the parts are fully machined. Most models are purchased over a period of time with kits arriving at regular intervals so the customer 'builds as he buys'. This not only spreads the cost but also spreads the workload. For some models all the kits are stocked so for the eager customer all can be purchased at once and the build can be carried out at the customer's own pace. Of course, building and painting your model should add significant value, as a result of which it can also be regarded as something of an investment. Kits are designed to be assembled with as limited as possible access to engineering facilities and tools. As an example, boilers are supplied fully constructed, silver soldered throughout and hydraulically tested to twice working pressure. However, since these can be complex models, we would recommend that, in particular, if you are a newcomer to live steam models then joining your local model engineering club would be a worthwhile move. Model engineers will appreciate the advantages of kit building, which can deliver a completed locomotive or vehicle in 10% of the time usually taken with a traditional build.
The 'build as you buy' concept and some of the designs offered by ModelWorks date back to the mid 1990's. ModelWorks have modified and improved those designs, have brought out new models and continue to focus on quality of manufacture.
ModelWorks Int Sales is a private company and occupies an 11.000 sq ft facility in Daventry (which is owned by two of the original shareholders). This facility houses the Administration, Sales, Technical Support and Design teams, but it is primarily a manufacturing site with boiler making as well as both a large CNC workshop and manual machining area, with the majority of machines owned by ModelWorks.
