At a time when men seem to have more to confront than before, men are talking about their “real issues”. With each generation, more and more men are growing up without fathers and positive male influences in their lives. Many men have expressed they lack confidence in being good fathers because they did not have fathers themselves, or good father figures to emulate. The rate of single-parent homes headed by women continues to increase. The rate of African American men in prisons exceeds the unemployment rate for men and women combined in this country.
The current male suicide rate is inclining to rival that of the Great Depression. Sexuality has become an even greater concern with the increase of HIV/AIDS, homosexuality - especially among young African American men, an increase in secretly bi-sexual or gay “men on the down low” of all ages, and incest and pedophilia making the news daily. Men are coming together to address their issues, such as the stress of proving for their families, stress at work, anger and domestic violence, which is the #1 cause of death for women in America. In a new talk show entitled, “Man Talk”. What is most dynamic about “Man Talk” is that men are addressing each other, and confronting their issues.
Men are no longer hiding and evading their real problems, concerns and feelings, or suffering in silence. Men who do not express themselves are more likely to abruptly explode into violence, or suddenly implode and simply leave physically, or mentally.
